Fishery Resource Management Specialist
Multiple Open Positions
As a Fishery Resource Management Specialist, you will perform independent statutory and regulatory compliance work related to one or more of the following statutes: Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Magnuson-Stevens Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, and the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act.
You will perform the following duties:
- Provides scientific analysis of a variety of environmental issues for application to fishery management issues and plans. Develops, implements, administers and ensures statutory and regulatory compliance of specific regulatory programs prescribed by the various fishery management plans, amendments and regulations to conserve fishery and protected species resources. Coordinates relevant activities with fishery management councils and other applicable groups.
- Reviews, gathers, analyzes, interprets, and synthesizes scientific data and technical information for the purpose of determining environmental impacts on biological resources and aquatic habitats; evaluates the effects of human activities, including land, water, and fishery management activities on fishery resources, protected species, and habitat.
- Provides technical advice, assistance, products and services on coastal and ocean issues, scientific research, and policy. Develops guidance and evaluates plans concerning management of these resources. Conducts natural resource and management studies and formulates solutions to complex problems related to natural resource management and protection. Coordinates and executes conservation and fishery management activities through collaborative partnerships within the organization and among academia, government agencies at the federal, state, and local level, industry, and the general public.
- Prepares formal briefs, letters of concurrence, biological opinions, and programmatic consultations on broader programs/activities. Drafts, tracks, edits, reviews, and records processes for regulatory reviews and/or permits. Prepares reports and makes presentations to convey technical information effectively to a wide variety of audiences.
Northwest Fisheries Science Center

Job Summary:
This position will provide technical expertise and support to understand and respond to the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems as part of the NOAA Climate, Ecosystem, and Fisheries Initiative. The incumbent will work with internal and external partners at national and regional scales to help develop information, tools and advice for climate-informed conservation and management of living marine resources. Expertise will include assessment of climate driven changes in marine ecosystems, using tools such as spatial modeling, ecosystem modeling, food web modeling, risk assessment, single and/or multi-species stock assessment, and/or management strategy evaluation.

Community Engagement Specialist for Salmon Habitat Recovery

Job Summary:
- Build capacity for long-term salmon habitat restoration monitoring by initiating and expanding collaborative relationships between federal, tribal, state, and community agencies by increasing public and partner outreach efforts, implementing strategies to engage local communities in activities that promote NOAA’s mission and goals, enhancing scientific and traditional ecological knowledge exchange, and incorporating equity and environmental justice principles into design and implementation of habitat conservation and monitoring programs.

Return on Investment Specialist for Salmon Recovery

- Collect, analyze, and visualize data related to the costs and benefits of salmon recovery actions and the preferences and incentives of private stakeholders related to salmon recovery actions.
- Engage recovery partners to assess the impediments to private stakeholder participation in salmon recovery efforts, and contribute to the collection and analysis of data to identify recovery strategies that incentivize private stakeholder participation.
