With 15 million recreational saltwater anglers taking 100 million fishing trips a year, it is simply not possible for NOAA Fisheries to interview every angler to find out when they went fishing and what they've caught. So to get an accurate picture of fishing activity, NOAA Fisheries relies on the proven method of surveys based on a representative sample of anglers selected through a process of random selection.
