NOAA Fisheries Service marine mammal biologist, Dave Withrow (center), checks on one of three gray whales trapped in sea ice outside of Barrow, Alaska. The famous rescue inspired a Hollywood film, released in February 2012. This photo was scanned from slides at the National Marine Mammal Lab in Seattle.
