In 2012, NOAA and the Penobscot River Restoration Trust began the removal of the Great Works dam on the Penobscot River in Maine. Combined with the planned removal of the Veazie dam and bypass of the Howland dam, this project will restore access to 1,000 miles of habitat for Atlantic salmon and other fish.
