International Fora to Promote Sustainable Trade
NOAA participates in a number of international fora to promote sustainable trade. In coordination with NOAA Fisheries Service Office of Protected Resources, we are working with other federal agencies and parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to improve reporting requirements for CITES-listed species and evaluate whether other coral reef species could benefit through a CITES listing. Some of our recent efforts have focused on hard corals, a new appendix II listing for all species of seahorses, possible CITES listings for groupers and wrasse in the live reef food fish trade, and development of appropriate conservation and management measures for sea cucumbers.
