Marine Aquarium Council (MAC) certification for aquarium organisms

MAC is a non-governmental organization that has developed multi-stakeholder standards for best practices in harvest and collection, handling, and transport through third party certification. NOAA encourages private efforts to improve the management of reef resources. We have provided technical assistance to MAC and are working with them explore possible certification of U.S. collectors and exporters in Hawaii and Puerto Rico. We do not endorse any particular scheme and recognize that the development of sustainable trade practices will require a variety of strategies.
