Public Comments on Rulemaking Petition to Protect Deep-Sea Coral and Sponge Habitat

Approximately, 33,644 public comments and 102 signatures were received on Oceana's rulemaking petition to protect deep-sea coral and sponge habitat from two public comment periods. The first comment period began June 14, 2004 and ended August 13, 2004. The second comment period began August 31, 2004 and ended October 15, 2004. Comments were received representing view points from fishermen, fishing groups, Fishery Management Councils, environmental groups, and other concerned citizens. The majority of comments were received through a form letter hosted by Oceana in favor of the petition's requests. These form letter comments will only be made available by request due to their large volume and file size. The files on this page include all non-electronic form letter comments received from individuals and organizations from June 14, 2004 to October 15, 2004.
