Where does marine aquaculture occur?
Marine aquaculture takes place in all coastal states, and in U.S. Territories such as Guam and Puerto Rico. Shellfish farming production is led by the states of Washington and Louisiana, but virtually all coastal states have commercial shellfish operations. Almost all shellfish farming takes place in protected embayments or estuaries. Marine finfish aquaculture in the U.S. is limited to salmon, striped bass, and a few other species at farms in a few states (primarily Maine and Washington), and research facilities.
