EFH for the New England Council |
|
Site Overview The New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) is one of eight regional fishery management councils created by the 1976 Magnuson Fisheries Conservation and Management Act, renamed Magnuson Stevens Fisheries Conservation and Management Act in 1996, to manage living marine resources within that area. The NEFMC is responsible for the creation of management plans for fishery resources (FMPs) in Federal waters off Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. These FMPs are for Atlantic Salmon, Northeast multispecies, sea scallop, Atlantic herring, and monkfish. The EFH descriptions and identifications for New England FMPs were approved on March 8, 1999 for Atlantic salmon, Northeast multispecies, and sea scallop. The EFH descriptions and identifications for Atlantic herring and monkfish were approved on October 27, 1999, and April 22, 1999, respectively. This website is designed to inform viewers about these New England EFH descriptions and identifications. Contact the NEFMC: Phone: (978) 465-0492 About the NEFMC |
