North Pacific Council Overview

The North Pacific Fishery Management Council (NPFMC) is one of eight regional fishery management councils created by the 1976 Magnuson Fisheries Conservation and Management Act, renamed Magnuson Stevens Fisheries Conservation and Management Act in 1996, to manage living marine resources within that area.

The NPFMC is responsible for the creation of management plans for fishery resources (FMPs) in Federal waters in the Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands. These FMPs are for: Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands groundfish; Gulf of Alaska groundfish; Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands King and Tanner crab; Alaska scallop; and Coast of Alaska salmon. The EFH descriptions and identifications for the North Pacific's FMPs were approved on January 20, 1999. This website is designed to inform viewers about these North Pacific EFH descriptions and identifications.
