Freshwater Wetlands

Freshwater wetlands are often associated with a body of fresh water such as a river, lake, or pond, but the freshwater supply may also come from precipitation or ground water. Common types of freshwater wetlands include tidal freshwater marshes, non-tidal freshwater marshes, and forested wetlands. In addition to natural freshwater wetlands, human-made impoundments also serve as important habitat for aquatic organisms, including fish.
