Restoration Center Funding Opportunities
Empowering Communities to
Restore Habitat
|
NOAA’s Community-based
Restoration Program (CRP) partners with grassroots
organizations to encourage hands-on citizen
participation in restoration projects. This
participation builds coalitions of interested
citizens and fosters long-term stewardship
of the nation’s coastal and marine resources.
Since 1996, the CRP has funded more than 1000
on-the-ground restoration projects in 27 states,
Canada, and the Caribbean.

Organized into four regions, the NOAA
CRP has been providing financial and technical assistance
to communities for the restoration of fisheries
habitat nationwide. These projects have encouraged
communities to actively participate in the conservation
of our nation's marine resources, enhanced stewardship,
and promoted conservation education.
See examples
of projects already funded through NOAA's Community-based
Restoration Program. Under a competitive review
process, projects are selected for funding based
on ecological benefits, technical merit, level of
community involvement, and cost-effectiveness. Although
the CRP program encourages meeting a minimum one-to-one
match, projects have typically leveraged $3 to $5
non-federal dollars for every NOAA dollar invested.
