About California Conservation Corps
The California Conservation Corps is oldest, largest
and longest-running youth conservation corps. The mission
of the California Conservation Corps is to engage young
men and women in meaningful work, public service and
educational activities that assist them in becoming
more responsible citizens, while protecting and enhancing
California’s environment, human resources and
communities.
About the Partnership
The NOAA/California Conservation Corps partnership
began in 2004. During the first year of the partnership,
$193,000 of NOAA funds were matched 1:1 by California
Conservation Corps with funds from state, local and
private sources. The goal of this partnership is to
restore, enhance and conserve watershed, stream and
estuary habitats throughout California that are vital
to the recovery of salmon, steelhead and other marine
organisms. Each project is planned and implemented
by Corps members with guidance from their local field
supervisor. Corps members work with the NOAA Restoration
Center, The California Department of Fish and Game,
local landowners and other resource agencies to ensure
that projects address priority issues within a particular
watershed.
