About The National Association of Counties
The National Association of Counties (NACo) is the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States. Founded in 1935, NACo provides essential services to the nation’s 3,066 counties. NACo advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public's understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research, and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money.
About the Partnership
NACo and the NOAA CRP founded the Coastal Counties Restoration Initiative (CCRI) in 2006, when they awarded funding to five pilot projects through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. The CCRI encourages innovative, county led or supported projects that restore important marine and coastal habitats and living resources. These projects also develop the capacity of county governments, citizens groups and other organizations to conduct community-based restoration that will enhance local watershed-based resource management and promote stewardship. In 2008, NACo and NOAA funded six projects in five states with over $350,000 of NOAA funds and additional cash and in-kind funding from coastal counties.
Request For Proposals
Projects are solicited through a Request for Proposals circulated by NACo and are selected on a competitive basis. The project applicant must have a letter of support from their county’s chief elected official. Projects are also expected to include significant community involvement and engage project partners. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact NOAA’s Community-based Restoration Program staff to discuss project ideas prior to submitting an application.
