About Restore America’s Estuaries
Restore America's Estuaries (RAE) is a leader in national
efforts to protect, conserve and restore our Nation’s
estuaries. RAE’s mission is to restore one million
acres of estuary habitat. Since 1995, RAE has been working
to preserve the nation's network of estuaries by protecting
and restoring the lands and waters essential to the
richness and diversity of life. RAE is a coalition of
11 of the Nation’s most effective community-based
conservation organizations that are working to protect
and restore coastal estuaries. The RAE coalition consists

About the Partnership
The NOAA/Restore America’s Estuaries Habitat
Restoration Partnership began in 2000. During the first
year of the partnership, $1.4 million of NOAA/RAE funds
were used to implement 17 projects at 55 sites nationwide
and develop a national restoration strategy. In 2001
and 2004 three-year partnership agreements were renewed,
providing over $6,742,000 of NOAA funds to be matched
1:1 by RAE. Subawards to RAE member organizations are
used to identify and implement quality projects in
each estuary. The many diverse projects funded include
native oyster restoration in San Francisco Bay, large-scale
eelgrass restoration in Narragansett Bay, shoreline
stabilization and re-vegetation in several locations
along North Carolina's coast, and salt marsh restoration
in Tampa Bay.
