Seabird bycatch mitigation measures in RFMOs
Beginning in 2002, a number of regional fisheries management organizations (RFMOs) have adopted and updated measures to reduce incidental bycatch of seabirds in longline and trawl fisheries.
The following reports from BirdLife International detail the overlap between seabirds and RFMOs:
- Tracking Ocean Wanderers
- RFMO duties and performance in reducing bycatch of albatrosses and other species
Below are links to the most recent versions (by year) of the binding conservation and management measures adopted by RFMOs to mitigate seabird bycatch. Also included are links to older measures that have been superseded and any relevant non-binding measures.
