By the late 1980s, many traditional U.S. fisheries became overfished.  As a result, the priorities of the Saltonstall-Kennedy Grant Program shifted from fisheries development to emphasize resource conservation and management, with a focus on bycatch reduction.  The term bycatch refers to species other than the target species that are inadvertently harvested and not sold or kept for personal use.  Clicking on the following project titles will take you to detailed information about bycatch project results:
