ABSTRACT

Use of geographic
information system technology (GIS) and relational database
technology could provide significant benefits to fishery
scientists, resource managers, and the fishing industry.
Large, well-established fisheries databases can be linked
and accessed using a user-friendly interface on personal
computers and workstations making fisheries and other
data more accessible to a variety of users. This project
began with a conceptual model which later led to a working
computer prototype. The utility of the proposed
system, using actual fisheries data, was demonstrated
by applying the fisheries information management system
to six management scenarios.
