ABSTRACT

The objective
of this study was to describe and analyze the emerging
European rules and regulations concerning imports of fishing
tackle that were being established as the result of the
formation of the European Union. These rules and
regulations govern tariffs, standards, labeling requirements,
and other non-tariff barriers. Eastern Bloc tariff
and non-tariff barriers also were described. The
report was based on interviews with government and key
industry representatives during 1992 and 1993. Distributors,
wholesalers, and retailers were interviewed about the
following markets: Belgium, France, Germany, Spain,
Portugal, Holland, Scotland, Ireland, England, Norway,
Sweden, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland. The
study concluded that Europe will represent the largest
and easiest opportunity for marketing outside the continental
United States. Results were formally presented
to the American Fishing Tackle Manufacturers Association
in November 1993.
