Recreational Fisheries Working Group
Established in 2010, the Recreational Fisheries Working Group (Working Group) advises MAFAC on its work on issues of importance to the recreational fisheries community. Members have been selected to represent the diversity of national, regional, and sector perspectives. Criteria for selection included having a sound expertise in the science, management, or business of recreational fishing, a well-informed background in recreational fisheries issues, and an operational knowledge of federal agencies and interactions with the Fishery Management Councils and/or regional and state partners. Members of the Working Group are appointed by the NOAA Assistant Administrator based on recommendations from MAFAC and through a public application process solicited by Federal Register Notices. Over the next year, it is anticipated that the Working Group will engage in review and revision of the NOAA Regional Recreational Fisheries Action Agendas, and planning for a second National Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Summit, as well as other recreational fisheries issues and activities identified as appropriate by MAFAC. In the past, working group members participated in the 2010 Recreational Fishing Summit, and have been actively involved in the post-Summit implementation of actions including the development of the 2010 Recreational Saltwater Fisheries Action Agenda; and have provided input through their participation in Webinars and other activities. | Working Group webinars and meetings Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP) homepage |
