Virginia's agreement lists the following species:

Endangered

• Blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus)
• Fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus)
• Hawksbill sea turtle (Chelonia mydas)
• Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae)
• Kemp's ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys kempii)
• Leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea)
• North Atlantic right whale (Eubalaena glacialis)
• Sei whale (Balaenoptera borealis)
• Shortnose sturgeon (Acipenser brevirostrum)
• Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus)

Threatened

• Green turtle (Chelonia mydas)*
  *Green turtles are listed as threatened, except for breeding populations of green turtles in Florida and on the Pacific coast of Mexico, where they are listed as endangered.
• Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta)

Candidate

• Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus)

Note: To be eligible for funding through the Species Recovery Grants program, species listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) must be covered by the State's section 6 agreement. Proposed and candidate species that occur in the State do not need to be listed on the agreement to be eligible for funding.
