NOAA Fisheries Announces a Change in Location of the Florida Public Hearing for Draft Amendment 5b to the 2006 Consolidated Highly Migratory Species Fishery Management Plan

Posted November 10, 2016

NMFS is changing the location of the Florida public hearing on Draft Amendment 5b to the 2006 Consolidated Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Fishery Management Plan (FMP) (81 FR71672, October 18, 2016).  Based on a 2016 stock assessment update for Atlantic dusky sharks, NMFS determined that the dusky shark stock remains overfished and is experiencing overfishing.  In Draft Amendment 5b, NMFS proposed management measures that would reduce fishing mortality on dusky sharks and rebuild the dusky shark population, consistent with legal requirements.  The public comment period ends December 22, 2016.

In the proposed rule, NMFS announced six public hearings and one conference call to provide the public an opportunity to comment on the proposed measures.  Due to a scheduling conflict at the Melbourne Public Library, NMFS has changed the location of the public hearing to Satellite Beach, Florida; the date and time have not changed.  None of the other public hearing locations have changed.
