Orange
bat sea stars are one of a variety of bat stars that come in an
array of colors also including yellows, purples and reds. They are
all easily identified by the webbing between their five to nine
arms. Bat sea stars, also known as sea bats, will eat just about
anything including each other and often engage in slow-paced combat
on rocks and the sea floor over access to food. They are common
in grassy, rocky nearshore waters of the Pacific from Sitka Sound
in Alaska to Baja, Mexico. The greatest threat to their habitat
comes from pollution.
