One of our core missions is to protect and recover threatened and endangered ocean life, including whales, dolphins, sea turtles, seals and salmon. To do that, we need reliable scientific information about these species.

Pioneering New Science

Our scientists use the latest technology including robotic underwater gliders, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cutting edge genetics to open new windows onto the lives of these species at risk.

Informing Smart Management

This science allows us to answer management-level questions in greater detail and manage protected and endangered species in the smartest way possible.

Benefiting Society

Many of these protected species are iconic animals and play key roles in the ocean ecosystem. But above all, we protect these animals because the American people decided we should pass this great natural heritage on to future generations.
